Only Credible APC Primary Can Decide Ogun East Ticket — Gbenga Daniel

Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has declared that only a transparent, free, and fair primary election will determine who emerges as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Daniel, who is seeking re-election to the Senate, said he has reached what he described as a “point of no return” in his political ambition, insisting that no opposition within or outside the party can stop his bid.

According to him, the only acceptable process is one that allows party members to freely choose their preferred candidate without intimidation or interference.

He made the statement during the BAT/OGD Movement Mid-Term Assessment Tour and empowerment programme held at the Obalofin Court, his private residence in Ijebu-Ode GRA, Ogun State.

The event featured a large-scale outreach programme, including free medical services for over 2,500 residents of Ogun East Senatorial District. Beneficiaries also received various empowerment items such as agricultural inputs like fertilisers and sprayers, as well as tools including generators, freezers, sewing machines, and other business-support equipment.

Daniel, who has already picked up his APC Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, said he is fully prepared to contest for the party’s ticket and urged party members to actively participate in the primary process.

He stressed that under the Electoral Act, only registered party members have the right to determine candidates through voting, warning against any form of manipulation during the exercise.

“I have reached the point of no return on this contest. On the day of the primary, go with your membership card, go to your ward, and vote for the candidate of your choice. Do not be intimidated,” he said.

The former governor expressed confidence that he would secure victory if the process is conducted in a credible and transparent manner. He also pointed to ongoing development efforts in Ogun East, saying continued representation would further benefit the district.

Several speakers at the event praised his contributions to infrastructure and grassroots development across Ijebuland, describing his projects and interventions as impactful and long-lasting.
