#POLITICS: Ladan Salihu Says Exit of Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso Weakened Opposition Hope

A prominent member of the African Democratic Congress, Ladan Salihu, has expressed disappointment over the departure of former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the party, saying their exit has weakened hopes for a stronger opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Sunday, Salihu said many Nigerians had seen the alliance between opposition groups within the ADC as a possible turning point for the country’s democracy.

According to him, the presence of both Obi and Kwankwaso in the party had created expectations that the opposition could unite and offer Nigerians a serious alternative to the current political structure in 2027.

Salihu, who previously served as Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, noted that supporters of both the Obidient movement and the Kwankwasiyya political movement strongly believed a united opposition would strengthen democratic competition in the country.

He, however, lamented that internal ambitions, shifting loyalties, and political interests have continued to divide opposition forces, making it difficult to build a common front.

The ADC chieftain also suggested that some politicians now treat opposition platforms mainly as tools for personal political ambition instead of focusing on collective national goals.

Despite the developments, Salihu maintained that he remains fully committed to the ADC, insisting that Nigerians still desire a vibrant opposition capable of challenging the ruling establishment and deepening democracy.
