The newly inaugurated leadership of the African Democratic Congress in Cross River State has announced its readiness to conduct party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, as it moves to strengthen its structure in the state.
The state chairman, Dr. John Ogar, said the party is still open for interested aspirants to purchase nomination forms, urging them to take advantage of the ongoing process by visiting the party secretariat without delay.
Speaking in Calabar shortly after the state congress, Ogar explained that a 37-member executive committee was elected through a consensus arrangement, describing the exercise as peaceful and in line with internal party guidelines.
He downplayed concerns about defections within the party, noting that only one member of the newly constituted executive has left since the congress.
Ogar also took a swipe at politicians who advocate for opposition unity but later abandon political alliances for personal interests, saying such actions undermine collective progress.
According to him, the party remains stable and united, insisting that committed members are still fully on ground despite speculation about internal divisions.
He further maintained that the congress was properly conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution, adding that a court ruling had also affirmed the authority of the state executive to organize congresses.
Ogar reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning the party in Cross River State, dismissing claims of factional crisis within its ranks.
