#NEWS: Wike, Channels TV Clash Over Abuja Headquarters Land Ownership Claim

Channels Television has responded to claims made by Nyesom Wike regarding the land on which the station’s Abuja headquarters is located.

The disagreement followed comments made by Wike during a media briefing on Wednesday, where he questioned the ownership arrangement of the property in the Guzape area of Abuja. The FCT minister suggested that the television station was operating on land allocated by the government and benefiting financially from it.

Wike also argued that media organisations should not expect free access when airtime or interviews involve commercial value, insisting that businesses operating on government-allocated property are still making a profit from public assets.

Reacting to the remarks on Thursday, Channels Television rejected the claims and clarified that the land was officially allocated to the company in 2007 for commercial use by the FCT administration at the time.

The broadcaster stated that all legal payments, fees, and statutory charges connected to the property were fully settled, maintaining that the acquisition process followed due procedure.

Channels Television further called on the FCT minister to clearly explain concerns surrounding lands allocated to journalists and media organisations, stressing that any legitimate financial obligations attached to such allocations should always be paid.

The station also defended its business operations, noting that paid airtime and sponsored media engagements are standard practices within the broadcasting industry.
