South Africa’s ActionSA has announced plans to file criminal charges against President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday over fresh allegations linked to the Phala Phala farm controversy.
The party said the charges will relate to alleged violations of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, perjury, fraud, and making false statements to the police.
According to ActionSA, the decision follows recent media reports suggesting discrepancies in the amount of money stolen during the 2020 burglary at Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in Limpopo.
Reports claimed that about R15 million may have been taken from the property, instead of the previously disclosed figure of R10 million.
The party insisted that it will pursue the matter through all available legal and constitutional channels, stressing that no one, including the President, should be above the law.
“We will continue pursuing accountability through all available constitutional mechanisms to ensure that no one, including the President, is above the law,” ActionSA said in its statement.
