New details are emerging from the shocking shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and investigators say the suspect had a clear target in mind.
Authorities have identified the attacker as 31-year-old Cole Allen from Torrance, California. According to law enforcement sources, Allen allegedly told officers after his arrest that he intended to target officials within the Trump administration.
During the incident, Allen reportedly rushed a Secret Service checkpoint at the Washington Hilton while armed with multiple weapons. He opened fire, striking a Secret Service agent who was protected by a ballistic vest. The agent survived and is expected to recover.
Security forces quickly responded, returning fire and taking Allen into custody on the scene.
Investigators also say Allen had prepared what they described as a manifesto and shared anti-Trump and anti-Christian messages online before the attack.
The FBI has since secured his home in California as the investigation continues, with federal authorities working to obtain a search warrant for further evidence.
Reports also suggest that Allen’s family had raised concerns before the shooting. His brother allegedly contacted police after receiving messages that included references to his plans. His sister later told investigators he had been acting increasingly unstable and had spoken about wanting to “do something” to address global issues.
Authorities believe Allen travelled from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. by train before carrying out the attack.
The case is now under federal investigation, with officials saying more charges are expected as they continue building the full timeline and motive.
President Donald Trump described the suspect as “a very troubled guy,” while confirming that investigations are still ongoing.
For now, officials say early findings point to a targeted attack aimed at government figures, but the full picture is still unfolding.
