#POLITICS: Kenneth Okonkwo Drags Peter Obi, Says He’s No Longer “Relevant” Politically

A prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has downplayed the political relevance of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi following his recent movement to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television, Okonkwo insisted that Obi’s recent political realignments would not have any impact on the ADC’s preparations or chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He expressed confidence that the ADC-led coalition remains united and focused, adding that it is positioned to secure victory in the next presidential race despite ongoing political shifts within opposition circles.

Okonkwo also criticised Obi’s pattern of party switching, alleging that the former presidential candidate has moved between multiple political platforms within a short period of time.

According to him, Obi has changed affiliations several times in recent months, moving from the Labour Party to ADC and later to NDC, describing the trend as inconsistent political behaviour.

He argued that such frequent movement raises questions about political stability and commitment, although he clarified that changing parties alone does not define a person’s competence or leadership ability.

However, he maintained that the reasons behind such decisions are what matter most, suggesting that Obi’s justification for leaving parties reflects avoidance of internal political challenges.

Okonkwo further claimed that if legal restrictions in the Electoral Act were not in place, more defections could have followed before official registration deadlines.

He concluded by questioning whether a leader who avoids political challenges can effectively handle the broader national issues facing Nigeria, stressing that the country requires resilience and stability in leadership ahead of 2027.
