The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, has expressed strong confidence that he will secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists after the APC screening exercise held on Sunday in Abuja, Salihu said he believes he is the preferred choice for the party, suggesting that if there is any “anointed” aspirant, it should be him.
He stated that he remains optimistic about his political journey, adding that his ambition is focused on becoming the next governor of Kwara State.
According to him, his confidence is rooted in faith and divine guidance, insisting that his political progress has been sustained by God.
He said he prays to emerge as the party’s chosen candidate, adding that if reports of an anointed aspirant are true, he hopes it refers to him.
On his chances, Salihu maintained that his years of experience in legislative leadership have prepared him for executive responsibility, noting that the role of a Speaker already involves executive-level decision-making within the legislature.
He explained that his seven years of experience in leadership have equipped him for higher responsibility in governance, adding that he is ready to take Kwara to what he called “the next level.”
Meanwhile, another APC governorship aspirant from Bauchi State, Nura Manu, also addressed journalists after his screening, unveiling plans to attract a ₦100 billion development fund to the state if elected governor.
Manu said the proposed fund would be directed toward agricultural commercialization and support for small and medium-scale enterprises, forming part of his broader three-point development agenda.
He added that he is not aware of any consensus arrangement within the party in Bauchi State, insisting that he is fully prepared for a direct primary election.
Manu also declared that he has no intention of stepping down for any other aspirant, stressing his commitment to contesting the party’s ticket.
