Former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesperson Datti Baba-Ahmed has explained why key opposition figures Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso did not move to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Speaking on the issue, Baba-Ahmed said the PRP was not the most suitable political platform for either Obi or Kwankwaso despite the party’s long-standing ideology and political history.
According to him, both politicians already had strong political structures and loyal support bases built around their existing parties, making a move to the PRP difficult and unnecessary.
He explained that Nigeria’s political landscape is now shaped more by alliances, coalition strength, and established party influence than by ideology alone.
Baba-Ahmed noted that major political actors are more interested in strengthening platforms that already have nationwide structures and electoral relevance rather than switching to smaller parties with limited political reach.
He added that Obi and Kwankwaso were already deeply rooted in their respective political movements, making the possibility of joining the PRP unrealistic at the time.
