ADC Crisis Looms as Dr. Raymond Edoh Opposes Early Endorsement, Zoning Plan

A governorship aspirant under the African Democratic Congress in Benue State, Dr. Raymond Edoh, has strongly opposed reports of alleged zoning and early endorsement of a candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election, describing the move as unconstitutional and inconsistent with democratic principles.

Edoh, a Benue-born political figure known for his international activism, said the development being circulated within party circles is premature and not in line with proper party procedures.

Speaking through his Media Director on Saturday, May 10, 2026, he called on the ADC leadership to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all aspirants seeking the party’s governorship ticket.

He questioned how a seven-member committee could allegedly be involved in zoning and endorsing a candidate when the party has not officially begun its nomination process or released nomination forms.

According to him, the legitimacy of such a committee is unclear, and the party leadership must explain its composition, mandate, and authority for carrying out such an exercise.

Edoh also demanded clarity on whether the committee was established for zoning, screening, or selection purposes, as well as the criteria used in identifying or engaging individuals linked to the process.

He stressed that adherence to the party constitution and internal democratic processes is essential to maintaining unity and trust among members.

The aspirant also referenced Benue’s long-standing political arrangements, noting that certain power-sharing understandings have guided the rotation of key positions over time.

He warned that any attempt to alter or disrupt existing political understandings without broad consultation could create tension and deepen divisions within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Edoh firmly rejected the idea of zonal primaries, insisting that such arrangements are not in line with democratic norms and should not replace open competition.

He maintained that all aspirants should be allowed to freely contest in a transparent primary election, adding that the party’s final candidate should emerge through a credible and fair process.

“Democracy thrives on fairness, openness, and due process,” he said, urging the party to allow members to freely choose their preferred candidate through proper constitutional procedures.

He further called on both national and state leadership of the ADC to distance themselves from any unofficial zoning arrangements and ensure that all decisions regarding the governorship ticket follow due process.

Edoh also appealed for internal peace and unity within the party, warning that unresolved disputes could weaken its chances ahead of the 2027 elections.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the African Democratic Congress and pledged to continue advocating for fairness, inclusiveness, and democratic values within the political space.
